Is daytime activity associated with improved mood?
Sample: 67 datasets from 14 countries, with a total sample of 8 223 participants.
Participants rated their mood on a smartphone and used wearable devices to record their activity levels throughout the day. Naturally, the rating scales could vary slightly from study to study.
Shown: the relationship between well-being and activity is bidirectional. Physical activity predicts good mood, and good mood predicts physical activity. The difference in mood when transitioning from sitting to walking is comparable to reading, playing games, or listening to music. The effect is stronger in younger people, thin people, women, and on weekends. The effect is weaker in older adults and people who are overweight.
Like if you stand up right now and then sit back down again.
