Who is happier when single, men or women?

Sample: 5 941 subjects aged 18-75 years - all participants were single people not in romantic relationships.

Participants completed questionnaires assessing satisfaction with their current relationship status (i.e. lack of a relationship), overall life satisfaction, sexual satisfaction, and desire to meet a romantic partner.

Showed: single women are happier overall than single men. Women are more satisfied with being single, more satisfied with life, less likely to want to meet a romantic partner, and more satisfied with their sex lives. The authors suggest that this is because women have more social support outside of romantic relationships. Indirectly, the study indicates that women in romantic relationships receive less benefit than men.
