In the field of early childhood education and care, there is an extremely low number of male workers. Why is that?

Sample: 280 respondents from the Czech Republic, a country where very few men work in childcare.

The respondents freely described and rated three categories of childcare workers - male specialists, female specialists and specialists without specifying gender.

Shown: men in the childcare sector are rated as significantly less warm, less moral and less competent than women in the same position. Specialists without specifying gender are rated well, but always mean women, not men. When describing expectations of male specialists in a free-form manner, participants indicated that they are prone to violence and pedophilia, but this does not manifest when they are rated using a questionnaire. Concerns about violence do not manifest themselves in any form when assessing women.
