It appears that in certain situations, cats prefer male owners.
Sample: 31 domestic cats.
Cat owners wore a portable chest-mounted video camera and recorded 100 seconds after returning home, acting naturally. The authors tracked the number of meows, head rubs against legs, yawns, etc.
Shown: cats more often make sounds (meowing, purring, chirping) to greet male owners compared to female owners - an average of 4.3 meows for men and 1.8 for women. The effect holds true for all cats regardless of age, breed, sex, or family size. The authors' hypothesis is that male owners talk to their cats less frequently and are less attentive. By making more sounds with male owners, cats may be trying to get their attention. It was also found that cats use multiple forms of greeting (tail-up posture, yawning, stretching, etc.). For cats, greeting is also an indicator of relief that their owner has returned home.
I wonder, do men also give fewer likes?
