Are there differences in how people perceive music written by humans versus music generated by AI?
Sample: 88 participants.
Three groups of participants watched the same videos, which differed only in their musical accompaniment. The first group listened to music composed by a human, the second to AI-generated music based on a simple description, and the third to AI-generated music based on a more detailed description.
Shown: when listening to any AI-generated music, participants’ pupils dilated more, possibly indicating higher arousal. When listening to AI music generated from a detailed description, participants blinked more frequently compared to music generated from a simple description, which may be linked to increased cognitive load. All AI-generated music was perceived as subjectively more arousing. Human-composed music was rated as generally more recognizable.
