Does equality make us more or less alike?

Sample: approximately 80 000 subjects from 76 countries and approximately 380 000 subjects from 106 countries.

Participants were assessed on a range of social and economic attitudes, in particular - tendencies toward patience, risk, trust, and prosociality.

Shown: gender differences are steadily shrinking, at least across the four measures used - patience, risk, trust, and prosociality. Differences in these traits are smaller among younger generations. The gap between men and women born in the 1980s was approximately 20 percent smaller than the gap between men and women born in the 1950s. This convergence suggests that the psychological profiles of men and women are becoming increasingly similar over time. The effect is stronger in low-income countries and those with less gender equality than in developed Western countries.
