How do we blink when we listen to music?
Sample: 123 participants with no musical training.
A series of studies was conducted - participants listened to various Bach compositions, musical pieces with the melody removed (only harmony and rhythm), and also watched a red circle on a screen while listening to music.
Shown: eye blinks synchronize with the tempo of the music. The effect occurs regardless of whether the listener likes the music or not, and persists even when the melody is removed from the piece. There are limits related to tempo speed - synchronization disappears for music faster than 120 beats per minute. Those with higher synchronization perform better at detecting changes in pitch - i.e., eye-tempo synchronization optimizes auditory processing. The effect vanishes when attention is focused on visual stimuli.
Like if you’re now going to pay attention to how you blink while listening to music.
