What happens if you put a political sticker on your car’s bumper?

Participants were shown dashcam footage of a passing car either driving smoothly or making dangerous maneuvers, forcing other cars to brake hard. The car had either a political sticker (the participant’s own party or the opposing party), or a neutral sticker "I love my dog". Then, participants were asked about their desire to honk and their hostility toward the driver on the video.

Shown: if the car in the video drove smoothly, the sticker didn’t matter. But if it made aggressive maneuvers, and the sticker was from the opposing political party, the desire to honk and hostility toward the driver increased significantly. Apparently, political symbols greatly amplify negativity in conflict situations, even in non-political contexts.
